PCA-GGR Autocross #2: Sunday, April 13, 2025 @ Salinas Municipal Airport sponsored by Porsche Redwood City

  • Event Capacity - 70
  • Registration opens on Monday, March 24th at 8:00 am.
  • Registration fee for this event is $100.  A $15 discount is available for current PCA members driving their Porsches in non-FUN classes at the event. 
  • Registration closes at midnight on Wednesday, April 9th or when our limit of 70 participants is reached.  Registration fees are non-refundable after registration closes.
  • PCA-GGR uses the ZONE 7 CAR CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM.  Confirm the classification of your car at https://zone7.pca.org/autocross-rules/ before registering for this event.
  • This is an all-day event.  Morning only or afternoon only participants are not allowed.
  • Car sharing – drivers sharing a car will run in different run groups.  Every driver is required to register separately, indicating in MSReg at registration that they are sharing a car, and with whom they are sharing.  Drivers in shared cars must run with separate car numbers. 
  • If there are multiple passengers in a car at least one must be a trained PCA Zone 7 autocross instructor.

  • Non-PCA member drivers with autocrossing experience may request permission from the Autocross Chair (autocross@pca-ggr.com) to register.  
    • Non-PCA members without prior experience are not allowed.
  • Note that PCA-LPR (Loma Prieta Region) will be running an autocross at Crows Landing on Saturday, April 12th.  See msreg.com/2025-LPR-AX2  Attend both events and make it a weekend of driving excitement and fun!
  • PCA-GGR Event Schedule (tentative plan - subject to adjustment prior to the event or onsite):

  • 7:00 am: Gates Open
  • 7:00 to 7:50 am: 
    • All participants and guests must check-in at the airport grounds security entry gate, show their confirmed Speedwaiver, and be escorted to the course paddock area.  The Speed Limit on airport access roads is 15 MPH max and all drivers must use their emergency flashers while being escorted on / off airport grounds.
    • Course set-up is in process: Drivers please respect and allow this exclusive time for the course designer, set-up team and safety staff to do their work without questions and distractions!
    • Cars are emptied of loose items and prepped for running.  Cars and driver helmets are accessible in paddock area(s) for safety inspection by Tech staff.  
      • Drivers ensure car numbers on both sides of their cars are readable from 75 ft (~8" high bold numbers with painter's tape that contrasts well over car color).  
      • New drivers registered as Students also add a ~12" strip of painter's tape diagonally across their driver's side headlamp (or equivalent area) for easy identification by instructors.
      • Students and their assigned Instructors who are mutually notified in advance of the event meet up.
  • 7:50 to 8:30 am:  Course available for walking.  All drivers should walk the course at least once (allow 15 min per walk at a good pace).    
  • 8:00 am sharp:  Student and novice course walk led by the Chief Instructor starting at the trailer.  
    • Registered Students are encouraged to line up their cars immediately prior to the start of the course walk forming a single-file line behind the Chief Instructor's car (#15) at the start line (usually near the trailer). 
  • 8:30 am sharp:  Students -- in their cars preferrably with their assigned instructors as passengers -- ready to do parade lap(s).  
    • Helmets are not mandatory for parade laps.
  • 8:30 to 8:40 am sharp:  
    • Parade of (1-2) laps around course only for new drivers registered as Students preferrably with their assigned instructors as passengers.  
    • Students then quickly and safely (10 mph) return their cars to their paddock parking locations and quickly get back to the trailer for the driver's meeting.
  • 8:45 am:  Mandatory Drivers Meeting at the trailer.
  • 9:00 am:  
    • Drivers in Run Group 2 check-in for work at the trailer, quickly get their work assignments radios and flags from staff, and quickly get out to their respective workstations.
    • Safety Steward (or designee) quickly visits the course workstations to ensure novice workers understand areas of coverage and where to stand for safety when course is hot.
    • Drivers in Run Group 1 get their cars on grid (line up in chevron pattern in grid area).
  • 9:20 am:  First car from Run Group 1 on course.
  • ~10:50 - 11:05 am:
    • Drivers in Run Group 2 quickly get back to their cars, get their helmets, and get their cars on grid in chevron pattern ready to run.
    • Students and Instructors meet on grid.
    • Drivers in Run Group 1 promptly check-in for work at the trailer, quickly get their work assignments from staff, and quickly get out to their respective workstations.
  • 11:05 am:  First car from Run Group 2 on course.
  • ~12:35 - 1:05 pm:  Short lunch break for approximately 30 minutes.  Sandwiches (selected at registration) and water are provided at the trailer.  
  • 1:05 pm:  Begin afternoon session -- which is a repeat of the morning session, but without the Safety Steward (or designee) re-visiting the workstations.
    • Run Group 2 drivers promply check-in at the trailer for work assignments (usually the same as in the am, but might change).
    • Run Group 1 drivers promptly get their cars on grid.
  • 1:15 pm:  First car from Run Group 1 on course. 
  • ~2:30 - 2:45 pm:  
    • Drivers in Run Group 2 quickly get back to their cars, get their helmets, and get their cars on grid in chevron pattern ready to run.
    • Students and Instructors meet on grid.
    • Drivers in Run Group 1 promptly check-in for work at the trailer, quickly get their work assignments from staff, and quickly out to their respective workstations.
  • 2:45 pm:  First car from Run Group 2 on course. 
  • 4:00 pm:  Last car finishes.
  • 4:00 to 4:45 pm:  Course clean-up.
    • Course workers bring fire extinguishers, flags and radios back to the trailer.
    • Course clean-up team completes their work.
  • All times are estimated and may be adjusted at the discretion of the PCA-GGR Autocross Director.

What to bring:

  • Chair and maybe an umbrella.
  • Painter's tape that contrasts well with your car's paint color, or printed vinyl / magnetic car numbers.  Car numbers must be visible from a 75' distance on both sides of the car.
  • Sunscreen, hat, layers for cooler mornings and warm afternoons (No RED clothing as that could be mistaken for a safety flag).
  • Note:  Your registration fee includes a sandwich selected at registration and bottled water will be available.

Event requirements

All drivers are responsible for bringing a safe car to the event.  Cars must be mechanically sound, in good running condition with no significant leaks, and the interior and storage areas must be free of any loose items.  In preparation for the event, please self-confirm that your car meets requirements PCA Autocross Safety Inspection Checklist

New non-PCA Drivers must request permission with Autocross Chair (autocross@pca-ggr.com).  Registration permission will depend on the participant's autocrossing experience. 

Refunds for erroneous registrations are at the discretion of the Autocross Chair.

  • HELMETS ARE REQUIRED with a 2010 or newer Snell Certification, which will be checked on Tech inspection.
    • A small number of loaner helmets are available at the trailer and a driver's license is required in exchange for use of a loaner helmet.
  • All drivers must have their car and helmet inspected and approved for safety by the onsite Tech staff prior to the start of the event.  Drivers without car and helmet inspection stickers and without car number displayed on both sides of the car will forfeit his/her run(s) until the issue is resolved.
  • This is a volunteer participation event.  All drivers MUST WORK at an assigned worker position.  Most worker positions require standing for over an hour per session.  Dress appropriately for working outdoors in the predicted conditions.  Do not wear red clothing as this could be mistaken by a driver as a red flag. 
  • This is an all-day event.  Participants are required to take part in both Morning and Afternoon sessions.
  • In-car instruction requires coordination with the Chief Instructor.
  • No drones are allowed.
  • No Guns (or Firearms), Alcohol or drugs permitted!!!
  • Drivers without a pre-assigned PCA-GGR seasonal number may select a number from the available number list, which can become their seasonal number pending active participation in multiple events over 1-2 season. 

Car number, car class, run group and work assignment information will be added to the registration info on MSReg ~2 days prior to the event in the "Attendee List" section for the event.

Our events run rain or shine, including maintaining the work assignments.  Refunds are not provided for inclement weather.
