RMR CONES ARE A FALLIN' AX

SATURDAY OCTOBER 24, 2020

                                                                                                                                        COLORADO AIR & SPACE PORT

Snow in September??  That can only mean one thing…. Everyone, even Old Man Winter, is excited for the return of the Cones Are a Fallin’ Autocross!  Mark your calendars to join us Saturday October 24th at the Colorado Air and Space Port to wrap up the driving season with our last driving event of the year.  In addition, we have a special surprise this year: Audi Club NA Rocky Mountain Chapter (ACNA RMC) has partnered with RMR to host a design contest for the course we will use for this event.

For anyone that would like to participate in the design contest**, courses must be submitted via email to AXcoursedesign@audiclubrmc.org no later than October 9th. The submissions will then be judged by the event chairs and a winning design will be selected and announced to the clubs. The winner of the contest will receive a free entry to the event, along with an additional gift tailored specifically to the winner and their car (that will be delivered in the weeks following the event to allow time for the custom tailoring).

You’ve never designed an autocross course before, you say?  Don’t worry, there are resources available to help you get started! Most of the information you’ll need can be found in the documents here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1N4qNFbEfVoJZlSeBGYx2NLZtBuQYtgF-/view?usp=sharing

Guidelines for a fun and safe course design need to be followed, as well as some location specific requirements such as avoiding turning over certain surfaces, considering safety of workstations, and staying out of potential taxiways.  Please first look at the PowerPoint (included in the link above) that goes over the general guidelines for a course design. This should give you a good base of knowledge to know what Autocross course design is about and the idea behind balancing the course. Then look at some of the previous courses to give you a sense of what has been done before and what the club has been comfortable with. After going through that information and those examples, look at the blank course and get an idea for which elements you would like to use and finally put those elements together. One last tip specific to this event: avoid a “drag strip start.” There needs to be a turn fairly soon after the starting point in order to help preserve clutches!

If you have any questions, we’re here to help! Email the contest hosts at AXcoursedesign@audiclubrmc.org

**Note: The course design contest is only open to current (i.e. "in good standing") Audi Club North America and/or Porsche Club of America members (which includes family and “Test Drive” members).  Any member that wishes to submit a design for consideration, but will otherwise not be participating in the event, may choose to donate the entry fee portion of their prize to another participant (but will still receive the “additional gift”). Selection of a contest winner will be contingent upon enough adequate submissions being made and will be at the sole discretion of Rocky Mountain Region PCA.

COVID-19, the novel corona virus, has become the forefront of immediate health concerns.  The RMR Board has been following and discussing these issues frequently.  We understand that members have concerns. In all things we do, we consider first and foremost the health and safety of our members, volunteers, and sponsors.  As we begin to host events again, we ask that everyone follow the guidelines below to help keep themselves and fellow members safe.

  1. Social distancing is key when gathering for the event.  Please maintain a distance of 6 feet from friends and staff whenever possible.
  2. Face coverings are most essential in times when social distancing is difficult.  Face coverings are meant to protect those around you in case you are unknowingly infected.  We are requiring that masks be worn at all times unless eating, drinking, or driving. Please bring your own face mask and have it on when you arrive at the gate.
  3. Avoid handshakes, fist bumps, and other forms of physical contact.  When appropriate, use hand sanitizer or wash your hands and avoid touching your face. For your health please bring some hand sanitizer and use it frequently.
  4. Following these guidelines will help to lower the risk of exposure and spread of COVID-19, and will facilitate our ability to host more events in the future.
