About this event
Instructor Day 2026:
The CDIs have an exciting day of performance driving planned!
This is to reward AX/PDS instructors and volunteers who have helped out since 2021.
This will be a FREE all-day event on: Sunday August 23rd* from 7am-5pm at NICU Amphitheatre (*note the new date).
We want to reward instructors and volunteers for their hard work and contributions to the club to help rebuild the AX/PDS program over the past 5 years. This is an excellent opportunity to have some fun, develop your car-control skills, and share coaching tips with fellow instructors and volunteers.
Modified Format:
This will be sort of a hybrid between an Autocross and the Skills Day from 2025. For this event, we want two people in the car as much as possible, and we will constantly rotate. Since we're normally so busy working with students and organizing and running the events, this dedicated event is your rare opportunity to drive and ride with a variety of fellow drivers to learn and demonstrate some impressive skills! This will also be a great chance for many of our new or aspiring instructors to get some valuable coaching and instructing practice to help build confidence.
We will have two main activities running in parallel.
1) We will have an autocross course set up in our main two lots, and it may have some slightly unusual elements intended for skills development compared to a standard competition autocross course. We will have timing running, and we may even have some in-car data collection capability for more detailed performance analysis.
2) In the remote VIP lot, we plan to set up a mini-course that takes advantage of the camber to help practice car control. We will also have our second timing system and display set up for that course, so you can use that for performance feedback and also to make it mini competition.
At each activity, we will rotate people through these three roles:
- Driving
- Passenger (coaching / learning / practice instructing)
- Course Worker (flag, timing, or cone duty)
Everyone should get tons of seat time, so it will be a really fun and active day!
Coffee, snacks, lunch, and post-event drinks will be provided.
Event requirements
The Instructor Day event is open to instructors and volunteers who have helped with AX and/or PDS over the past 5 years since we restarted the programs after COVID. For volunteers, we are including people who helped with at least one full day of PDS assistance as well as our regular AX volunteers (timing, registration, equipment, safety, etc.) and board members. If in doubt, please email cdiax@pcasdr.org.
Cars will need to pass our standard AX tech inspection to participate. All other AX safety and participation requirements also apply, including helmets and club membership (PCA, BMWCCA, or SCCA).
If you are a volunteer with limited or no performance driving experience, we may still be able to accommodate you. Just contact us, and we'll make sure you are always paired with an instructor for each exercise if the registration balance works out.
