Tour resumes scenic drive on SD-87 via Blue Bell to 16A to arrive at the hotel for 2 nights in Custer.  Dinner will be on your own as you explore what Custer has to offer.

Day 2:  Monday August 18th:

This is a day for you to split from the group or create your own mini group to explore the Custer area sites.  We will provide a suggested tour you can drive on your own time.

74 mile on your own tour is about 3 hours total drive time. Plan on a lunch in Keystone or at Mt. Rushmore Visitor Center at Carver’s Café inside the monument.

Tour Route:  Loop drive over the Norbeck Scenic Byway through Custer State Park with a rest stop at a roadside picnic area, and a second rest stop at Custer State Park Resort.  Proceed on US-16A which includes the scenic Iron Mountain Road over pigtail bridges and tunnels with views of the faces, then on the main highway into Keystone to visit tourist attractions e.g., the Borglum Story and the 1880 Train (3 hour round trip rides are available 3 times a day and if interested you should book your tickets Sunday night or Monday morning). Lunch is on own. Tour continues on SD-244 to US-385 to take scenic Needles Hwy (SD-87) and SD-89 back to the hotel in Custer.

Day 3:  Tuesday August 19th:

128 miles Porsche tour is about 3.5 hours total drive time. Lunch on own at Alpine Inn.

We depart in run groups to our next hotel in Deadwood for two nights. The drive starts with a visit to Crazy Horse monument, followed by a scenic loop drive into Rapid City, returning to Hill City for a group lunch on your own at the Alpine Inn.  We will be allowing extra time to explore the Hill City attractions before continuing our run groups.

Tour regroups for a scenic drive towards Deerfield Lake and Rochford, to a stop at Manuel Brothers Park in Lead to view the mine, then check-in at the hotel in Deadwood.  Although it may sound like a lot of driving, the entire drive is only 128 miles. Explore Deadwood with dinner on your own.

Day 4:  Wednesday August 20th:

Day 4 is for independent exploration. Tour suggestions include all-day loop drive first to Sturgis to visit the motorcycle HOF and the Saab Heritage Car Museum.  Then take the Vanocker Canyon Road almost to Nemo; then follow Nemo Rd to Brownsville and US-385 to Pluma; take US.-85 through Lead US-14A to Cheyenne Crossing and Savoy for a stop at Roughneck Falls.  Then drive scenic Spearfish canyon (note the location of the final winter scene in Dances with Wolves) to a rest stop in Spearfish.  Suggest lunch on own in Sundance at Longhorn Saloon.

After lunch take WY-14 to visit Devil’s Tower in Wyoming.  Return via Hulet, Aladdin, to St Onge and return to the hotel in Deadwood.

End: Thursday morning for breakfast at the hotel and final goodbyes.  From here you can decide to extend your stay in South Dakota or head on back to Colorado.
