ROCKY MOUNTAIN THUNDER  ADVANCED SOLO HPDE

Welcome to RMR's combined Club Race / HPDE. Club race is one of PCA's premier driving events. There are only 29 Club Races held each year. Club Race started in 1992 and it is a point of pride that Rocky Mountain Region of PCA held the first ever Club Race in that year. RMR hosted that first event at Second Creek and did so for years after till Second Creek closed and we moved to High Plains Raceway. RMR would be on record with the Potomac Region for having the longest running event had not Second Creek closed and RMR changing the event to HPR.

NOTE: The DE event is in conjunction with the National Club Race being held the same weekend.  Only experienced DE drivers are allowed to participate. To qualify for the 2022 Rocky Mountain Thunder DE you need to have:

  • If local to RMR
    • You have driven in at least two RMR/AMR HPDE events in the last two seasons and approved by a CDI to drive solo
    • You have driven in at least one event at High Plains Raceway
  • If an out-of-town DE participant
    • You are an HPDE instructor or an intermediate-advanced driver having driven solo for at least 4 days on at least 2 different tracks
    • You can provide a track driving history and/or reference contacts with your local club's chief driving instructor

We cannot have shared driver cars unless one driver has previously run in the Expanded Passing run groups (Orange or Black).

We will have two DE run groups. The "Black" run group, for instructors and expert level drivers, will utilize PCA's "expanded passing" protocol where passing is allowed most anywhere on track with a point-by.  The "blue" run group, for advanced and intermediate level drivers, will utilize conventional passing only on the longer straights with a point-by.

DE drivers are also invited to participate in the HPR open-lapping day on Friday. Please register directly with High Plains Raceway, info at www.highplainsraceway.com click open lapping days

Please support our event charity, the University of Colorado Burn Center, with your generous donations.

The University of Colorado Hospital Burn Center is the only accredited adult burn center in the Rocky Mountain Region verified by the American Burn Association.  The Burn Center provides high quality patient care from time of injury through rehabilitation. The Burn Center is never on divert for burn injuries, but is always ready to accept patients with burns or soft tissue injuries of all sizes.

Patients have access to a team of burn specialists, including physical and occupational therapy, nutrition, psychology and rehabilitation, along with exposure to the SOAR (Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery) peer support program and assistance through our Burn Foundation and burn survivor community.

During lunch hour on Saturday and Sunday, there will be charity drives around High Plains Raceway.  Any car may drive laps around the track at highway speeds, as long as there is a seat-belt for every passenger, in exchange for a $20 or more donation per car. Thankfully, COVID-19 restrictions have been relaxed, however, we recommend that all occupants of vehicles participating in lunchtime charity rides be either 1) same household members, or 2) “fully vaccinated” (e.g., 2 weeks after vaccination regimen completed).  Always feel free to use “social distancing” and masks as you see fit and comfortable.  Hand sanitizer, masks and wipes are freely available.  Of course, COVID-19 restrictions could change so stay informed.

Our donations will be made in memory of Jerry Schouten, a long-time RMR member and avid club racer.

Drivers will receive a Speedewaivers to sign. If you have family or friends attending they must print and sign the appropiate waiver below and bring the form to registration, a CDI or event chair;
